What It’s All About

The Bible… It’s The Word of God! Our instruction manual for how we should live life. It helps us learn who God is and helps us draw closer to Him. So how did I make it to my 40s without having read it all?! I knew the Bible stories. I could quote verses. I read Bible study books that had verses sprinkled throughout. But I never set aside the time to read The Bible. It honestly sounded boring and daunting. And how could the stories of the Old Testament help me with our fast-paced life today? When I finally felt convicted enough, I did it. Begrudgingly… but I did it. It took a few days… but I discovered something. I WAS WRONG! (Don’t tell my husband!) The character of God can be seen all throughout the pages! That’s need-to-know information, regardless of what day and age you live in!

But the conviction didn’t stop. God just changed the subject. He continued to gently nudged me, (maybe more like a head knock at times) to convict me about the kids. It’s like over and over He said to me, “Hey Jackie! I know those kids making good grades and learning how to conquer that level on that video game is REALLY important… but how about making sure they learn ME and start developing habits that draw them closer to Me.”

So, I set off to develop a plan to get those boys to routinely and independently sit down with an open Bible and understand what they were reading. Problem. I couldn’t find anything. It seemed everything was Bible stories instead of actually going through the Bible.

Guess who came knocking again…

GOD: Hey Jackie. You need to do a Bible breakdown podcast for those boys to walk them through the Bible.

ME: I think you have the wrong person.

GOD: Hey Jackie. You need to do a Bible breakdown podcast for those boys to walk them through the Bible.

ME: Seriously! I'm not the one! I still think you have the wrong person! And... I don’t want to! But can you have someone else do it? Cause I feel like my boys would really benefit from that!

GOD: Hey Jackie. You need to do a Bible breakdown podcast for those boys to walk them through the Bible.

This went on for months. Since He is well aware of my stubbornness, and I was somewhat effectively ignoring Him when He would convict me during the day… He decided to start waking me up at night to convict me. Ugh!!!!

ME: OK! FINE!! YOU WIN! But just for the record… I still don’t think I’m the right choice! I’m a hot mess on a good day!

GOD: I know. That’s why I’m here.

How do you reply to that?! So here we are. And what a blessing it has been! I can’t wait to see what He has planned next!
